Size and wording matter here
This is one of the signs codes tend to be specific about. Some states require particular wording and a minimum letter height for this warning — in some places several inches. With the default wording, the headline’s capital letters print about 1.7 inches tall at 18 × 24 in and about 2.3 inches at 24 × 36 in (under 1 inch on Letter). If your code requires taller letters, shorten the headline or have a sign shop set it at the required height. Check your state and county pool code for the exact text and minimum height before you order.
House signs like this one don’t replace the signs your state or county health code requires. Some codes set exact wording and minimum letter heights (several inches for certain warnings), so check your local pool code — or ask your pool management company — before you rely on a printed sign.
Attendants aren’t lifeguards
Plenty of HOAs staff their pool with attendants — people who manage check-in, guests and rules — instead of lifeguards. That’s a good way to run a pool, but it doesn’t change the sign: if no certified lifeguard is watching the water, say so. Here’s what a pool attendant does.
